I ordered this as a gift and now have a bit of a dilemma. The file is beautiful and is very nice quality, but it really should be stored in something much nicer than the case it came in. The metal case is cheap, poor quality, made-in-China, ill-fitting and too large to store the file in on a daily basis. This temps one to keep it out of the case but the other reviewers say how fragile it is and how easy it breaks without protection. To me..this is a marketing trick to sell replacements and a serious disappointment. It is listed as "Made in Germany" so of course one would think all of it, right? Maybe there is a nice case I can buy to match up with this file but it should come in one shouldn't it? I mean for $20 for a nail file and then you need to buy a real case for it??? Come on Tweezerman, you serve up a great glass of wine here and then go and put a fly in it.
Deceit in marketing today makes me angry, I recently returned several items to Amazon that were advertised as made in Germany or Japan and they arrived made in China. Back they went, but this item I'll just buy something better to put it in as it is a nice file. No need for me to cut corners and standards like Tweezerman has done. BAD Tweezerman!!

The Tweezerman porcelain file is definitely not your run-of-the-mill nail file. It certainly is a better nail file than what you might buy at Target for five bucks. But I paid twenty bucks for this one, and I expected a little more. Its first drawback is that both sides of the file have the same roughness. Most other nail files have a rough shaping side, and a soft finishing side. Since the Tweezerman is made of a single piece of porcelain, both sides come with the same medium roughness. Its second drawback is that the file itself is rather thick. This means that it's difficult to get it underneath nails or to use it at certain angles. It does have some nice features though. After six months, I have not noticed any degradation in the roughness. It still files like the first day. It has a sleek look and comes in a fancy box. For ten bucks it would be a good deal.

Truly one of the best files out there!!!! I used to buy this file in Germany under the name "Misslyn", same price. Unfortunately, will break easy, so be very carefull, I have broken 3 over time...The metal case is a definte plus and I keep mine in it religeously!!
But the porcelain file is the best file out there. I have thin problem nails and this really helps. I also use a glass file, again a sensitive thing, it's more for smoothing things out. The porcelain file tip gets into corners much better and packs more punch filing, but still ideal for problem nails. Highly recommended!!!

Received and used with pleasure. Works great! Immediately you can feel the quality of the product. Requires zippo training. More rugged than I expected from concerns of its potential for breaking. I would suspect that if it isn't dropped that it could last decades. I did wash it to check the cleaning process and I can see that it would be *very* easy to drop it during this activity, I almost did.
Special Note: (Important)
-------------
When you open the metal box containing the porcelain file, you will see inside the lid a black with white lettering insert with "Tweezerman Porcelain Nail File - Hand Crafted in Germany" imprinted. Take something and remove this 'instruction' card. Inside it tells about the product and care. Now flip it over, and on the back it says for anyone concerned about breaking it: "THE BEST IMPLEMENTS THE BEST GUARANTEE! If file breaks, do not use. We replace damaged/dropped tool for one half the purchase price. No S&H charges. Send tool *insured* in a padded mailer with your name, address and phone number to: TWEEZERMAN SERVICE, 235 Blue Bell Road, Houston, TX 77037. Allow 4 weeks. [...]"
I'll update my review if I experience any failures or performance reduction.

This nail file is the best that I have ever purchased. The nail filing results are excellent and I believe that this porcelain file will last for years. However, it is brittle and will break if dropped. I highly recommend the purchase of this nail file.
